Vermeil nails its opening and ending songs, turns in solid voice work (especially the unhinged pink-haired tsundere), and manages respectable art for a tight budget, but every beat of its plot, cast, and fanservice feels photocopied from a dozen other magic-school power fantasies. The characters are largely insufferable, the big back-story lands too late in episode 11, and fight scenes can't compete with the animators' devotion to ecchi shots.
