Review of Vermeil in Gold
Unusually good for it's genre. Don't expect anything groundbreaking. It isn't a top tier story that would change your view on life or teach you something. But despite it being an ecchi, it is very sweet and kinda wholesome. I've seen many ecchi anime, I admit, but this one got actually some depth to it. Albeit just some. Everything, the story, the characters, the world seems like an ordinary ecchi cliche at first. The few first episodes we watch a generic nice-guy, weakling, blunt protagonist who summons a hot chick who is all over him for some reason. What happens in the first episodes has very little meaningand makes very little sense as it only serves to provide the fan service to the audience.
However as the story progresses, the characters evolve a bit. Especially the main guy who actually mans up for a change and gives the hot chick an actual reason to fall for him. He also doesn't stay a clueless victim of random stripped girl's attacks like most of the ecchi protagonists, but actually takes an initiative with the one he likes, so the scenes become less dumb and forced as the story goes on.
The anime sadly ends when it starts to get interesting with the plot. Maybe that is a good thing, with how many anime's butcher their story the closer they get to the finale, but I am really curious how this one would continue.
