There is nothing to praise: even the faint admission that it isn’t the absolute worst harem anime is damning. Hajimete no Gal is a cheap, tone-deaf muddle that can’t decide between being a romance or pornography, rendering its spineless protagonist and motiveless gal harem unbearable. Every episode piles on lazy fanservice clichés in service of Blu-ray pandering, making the whole series feel like a cynical cash-grab. Worst of all is its core indecision—trying to titillate while pretending to tell a love story, and failing at both.
