Synopsis
Shion Sonozaki swaps with twin Mion, falls for Satoshi, who vanishes; a year later, Keiichi’s arrival unearths Hinamizawa’s dark secrets.
The prestigious Sonozaki family of the rural village Hinamizawa has always kept twin sisters Mion and Shion separated by duty: Mion is groomed as the next heir, while Shion is shipped off to the elite St. Lucia Academy. Unable to bear the distance, Shion runs away and sneaks back home, swapping places with her sister for a taste of normal life. Back in Hinamizawa, Shion (still posing as Mion) takes a part-time job and quickly befriends Satoshi Houjou, a quiet classmate whose gentle nature captures her heart. Yet whispers about the Houjou family’s troubled past ripple through the close-knit village, and when Satoshi suddenly vanishes without a trace, Shion’s world tilts off-balance. A year later, the arrival of transfer student Keiichi Maebara stirs up old emotions and rivalries, pushing Shion to confront lingering questions about Satoshi’s disappearance. As she digs deeper into the village’s secrets, she begins to sense that the cheerful surface of Hinamizawa hides something far more unsettling—and that her own family might be part of the mystery.
