Bakemonogatari delivers uniquely complex leads whose constant boke-tsukkomi role reversals, lightning-fast dialogue, and tour-de-force voice acting create an unforgettable verbal performance, all wrapped in SHAFT’s art-house visuals. Only Sengoku’s fanservice-heavy arc and occasional real-world photo inserts feel out of place, while some wordplay inevitably slips away in translation. Still, it’s a true masterpiece whose experimental style works beautifully. The ever-shifting comedic sparring between Senjougahara and Araragi stands as the show’s crowning triumph.
