Synopsis
Child Rascalnikov faces moral crisis in revolutionary Russia after crime, judged by Polifili, guided by Sonya toward redemption.
An adaptation of Fyodor Dostoyevsky's classic Crime and Punishment, reworked for younger readers. The setting is St. Petersburg in Czarist Russia, in the days just prior to the Russian Revolution. Rascalnikov is a child from a poor family who finds himself at the center of a moral dilemma that will test his beliefs about justice, genius, and the value of human life. When a terrible crime is committed in his city, the brilliant and determined Judge Polifili begins an investigation that will challenge both the investigator and the suspect in unexpected ways. As the investigation unfolds, Rascalnikov must confront his own philosophical beliefs about right and wrong, while those around him - including Sonya, a young woman struggling to survive in difficult circumstances - attempt to guide him toward redemption.
