The Cat Proposed
化け猫かたって候
Synopsis
Exhausted Souta sees storyteller Kihachi become a cat; to survive, he must marry the bakeneko.
Worked ragged, Souta Matoi is exhausted. Even a single night's rest does little to ease the bone-deep fatigue. In a daze on the commute home, he decides to go to a koudan show, a type of traditional Japanese storytelling. The storyteller's jaunty voice, the picturesque atmosphere, and the lively dramatics all evoke memories of happier times. That is when Souta sees it—the storyteller, Kihachi Toujou, turns into a cat. Having seen a true bakeneko, a monster-cat spirit, Souta is now no longer allowed to live. This holds true for Kihachi as well, who allowed a human to witness his cat form. However, there is a workaround to this dilemma—all Souta has to do is marry Kihachi.
