Sugata Sanshirou has spent years training in the wilderness, developing exceptional martial arts skills under the guidance of a strict regimen. When word arrives that it's time to fulfill an old family promise, Sanshirou must leave the familiar mountains and journey to the bustling city to meet the fiancée arranged through this long-standing agreement. Meanwhile, Toyotomi Sanshirou, a city dweller with some martial arts background from his family's traditional dojo, finds himself at a crossroads. Though he possesses natural talent, he's grown weary of the expectations placed upon him as the heir to his grandfather's legacy. When news arrives of another Sanshirou coming to fulfill an arranged marriage agreement, he sees it as a potential escape from his predetermined path. The stage is set for an unexpected encounter between two very different worlds - the disciplined wilderness training of one Sanshirou meeting the urban dojo life of another. What follows is a clash of traditions, expectations, and perhaps most surprisingly, the discovery that appearances can be deceiving when it comes to matters of strength, honor, and destiny.
