Jinta Yadomi, once the energetic leader of a tight-knit childhood friend group, has become a reclusive shut-in who avoids school and social interaction. His peaceful isolation is shattered when he begins seeing what appears to be the spirit of Menma, a girl from his past who he hasn't seen since their group drifted apart years ago. This unexpected encounter forces Jinta to confront the painful memories he's been avoiding. Menma claims she can't move on until a certain wish is fulfilled, but she can't remember what it was—only that it involves bringing their old friend group back together. Now Jinta must find a way to reconnect with his estranged childhood companions, who have all gone their separate ways and grown apart, while dealing with the surreal nature of his situation.
