User Recommendations for Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo

Both go very deep into the characters themselves, who are not as clean-cut as they appear on the outside.
A cat and mouse game. A very in depth psychological mystery. Excellent characters and plot.
I ended up watching Monster thanks to a recommendation On Gankutsuou, both of which now rank amongst my favourite anime, and I have to echo the sentiment. Gankutsuou and Monster are both top tier anime featuring an intense plot driven by the diabolical schemes of a brilliant and devastatingly charismatic antagonist. The writing and characters for both is top quality, and although the both have very different pacing and artistic styles, they are both the best at what they set out to do and will have you gripped from start to finish.
Much shorter than Monster and a completely different setting/theme. But both delve quite a bit into what makes actually characters good/bad and how they might view themselves. They also go into their history very well.
Great history, great characters, and best antagonist. Maybe a bit slow and pathetic final but the rest deserves a big applause.
Animation style aside, Gankutsuou and Monster plot have many common key elements and an antagonist with deep motivation to perform his evil deeds and trying to apparently murder and destroy everyone's life. It's undeniable how The Count and Johan Liebert are similar but also very different at the same time. They seem like the cruelest monsters on the surface of Earth, but both hold strong motivations and origin behind their plots and reasons to act like monsters. Manipulators, cold-blooded and heartless but end up charming many viewers including myself. The plots move slowly but you'll eventually get to conclusions and decide if you sympathize with the antagonist
The two have same geners similar atmosphere the main characters (Johan & monte cristo) are both mysterious...
