Tonari no Yokai-san · review
This series addresses loss and grief in a beautiful way. It considers not only how people deal with loss and bereavement, but also how we feel, how we grieve almost pre-emptively, as we contemplate the eventual deaths of those we love - something which is rarely explored in any media, despite being something many of us face as we see our family members get older. The subject matter is heavy, but don't be deterred. The scary topics are faced with a warmth, with a gentleness and an intent to soothe. This show is in the iyashikei ("healing") genre. Watching it is like a little hugfor your heart. It's also one of very few anime I've seen that has an LGBT+ character that's - well - just a regular guy, not played off as comedic or fetishistic, and that's really nice to see.
