Revelation of Youth · review
Spoiler warning
This review may discuss plot details.
I'm all for a whacky premise / gimmick as long as it stays fresh. The plot of this manhwa is the classic guy and girl end up living together due to unforeseen events. You've seen it before, Blue Box took a grounded and realistic approach while other titles took more liberties with it. Revelation of youth kicks it up a notch from those, it might top my cake of ridiculousness. In my opinion you live or die by a ridiculous premise, so lets see if Revelation of youth dies by it or not. The art style is decent, I'm not a huge fan of the colouring,it's kinda washed out and sketchy, the main girl is cute tho. I'm also a fan of the authors fashion sense, he keeps it fresh really giving life to the slice of life setup. You just know this guy was not an outfit repeater back in his highschool days, type of guy to not even wear the same pair of jeans 2 days in a row. One thing I'm not fond is the overuse (in my opinion anyways) of silly faces and expressions. Don't get me wrong I don't want to be that guy, I like a funny expression done well from time to time, but when it's done multiple times every single chapter it gets tiring. I prefer a regular good old detailed art style, not a bunch of doodles, but that's just me.
The cultist plot is something, it takes a back seat mostly for the slice of life romance fluff, I can't say I was hugely interested in it, but the uncle was an interesting character and he kept me invested. I could tell just from the flashbacks he was a fun character with heartfelt advice. He even came into the story at the perfect time as I was getting just a little bit bored when he appeared and kept things fresh. Chungah, the main girl, is fun, I like her character type. The honest, dumb, positive girl, I have a soft spot for them. Kim Yohan is the usual cold, black haired cool guy. He does show some personality tho so I don't really mind him. Other notable characters are Sunoo and Yeji, the side couple, or soon to be couple, although with the pace they're progressing at, I should scratch the soon part. I found myself invested in their antics and rooting for them, but I've gotta say if there is a character that embodies the how are you so dense trope, Yeji is patient 1. The comedy is pretty good and the slice of life is just what you would expect, it does the job. The main couple get together pretty early and they're very cute together, I kicked my feet a couple times and giggled as they say.
I wouldn't call this a masterpiece of the romance genre in any way, it doesn't do anything amazingly, but there's nothing bad I can say about it, it's mostly fluff comedy which it does well. The romance is also good so I have no complaints. You can binge read this without having to think too much.
Overall, I would give it like a 7.5, maybe a bit more, so I'm just rounding it up to an 8. Think of it as a low 8.
