Review of Don't Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro
Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san is an anime that defied my expectations. When I started watching it, I saw that the anime was quite controversial, mostly because of the bullying aspect. Now that I finished it however, I can say that while not the greatest anime out there, it is still a very enjoyable watch. While the teasing might turn some people off, the harshest it will ever be is in the first two episodes. After that, it starts becoming more toned down, with Nagatoro playfully teasing her senpai. After the first two episodes, the anime becomes surprisingly wholesome, especially when the relationship between the two main characters isdeveloped.
The art style for the most part isn't something out of the ordinary. While it is somewhat average, it still looks good, with several shots across the show looking really pretty.
The voice acting in this show is quite good. Sumire Uesaka, the voice actress for Nagatoro, captures the feeling of the character really well. The music adds a lot to the show, enhancing the feeling of many scenes during the anime. The OP is very catchy, and the ED is nice as well.
The characters, especially the two main ones, complement each other really well. Senpai is nothing out of the ordinary, at the start being submissive and passive. However, with the help of Nagatoro, he starts coming out of his shell and gaining more confidence in himself. While Nagatoro doesn't develop as much as her senpai, watching the two interact and develop their relationship over time is very interesting, the teasing being mixed with wholesome moments across the series.
While Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san is not one of the greatest anime of all time, it is still worth watching if you like shows that don't take themselves too seriously. Overall, this series is very enjoyable, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to relax or watch a funny and lighthearted anime.
