Review of Suzume
Hmmm I hope I’m not the only one seeing that Souta looks like Howl. Makoto-sama is back with another highly anticipated fantasy. Your Name was a masterpiece, and Weathering With You was solid although flawed. I had high hopes for Suzume from the look of the trailer and the hypnotic score. Let’s get the obvious out of the way. The animation was god-tier level. Whenever I saw those purple sky, I held my breath. It was magical and the gate literally brought me into another worldly experience. There were also other scenes that awed me. The world building here was interesting and complex. I kinda get the lorethat the story was trying to go for about the origins of earthquakes. Suzume’s character journey of acceptance and moving on was also solid. However, the whole time I couldn’t find the factor that would make the story stick with me. For me the movie was just another amazingly animated flick with an interesting storyline that I probably would forget soon. Your Name and Weathering (more for Your Name) both had something in the premise and characters that stayed with me.
Overall, it’s another well-made movie, but I don’t know if I would remember it. 7.5/10
