Please don’t Bully Me Nagatoro is an anime in the oddly specific but wildly popular genre of “Female classmate teases / bullies male MC” alongside other similar shows of Uzaki-Chan and Takagi-San. Like the other two anime Nagatoro relies on the relationship dynamic of the two leads in order to produce the majority of its comedy and drama, with a small supporting cast to spice things up. Out of the three I would say that Nagatoro probably does it the best, however this is something entirely up to each viewer's preferences and comedy tastes. The titular Nagatoro is an overall enjoyable characterto watch as her high energy keeps things lively and entertaining. The one caveat of this is her obscessent comments of “gross” “perv” and “creep” start to grate on you after a few episodes. Senpai on the other hand was fine as far as male MC’s in this genre go, being pretty flat overall, but fulfilling his purpose as Nagatoro’s vocal punching bag sufficiently. He could definitely be more boring so I’m not going to really complain about him. As a side note I think Daiki Yamashita was an excellent casting role for him as I already perceived Deku as a dorky crybaby so the voice transferred over well from him into senpai. My only major complaint with the show is that the quality of the sketches seemed to vary significantly, with some episodes being a complete slog to watch without so much as a chuckle and other episodes being quite entertaining. I suppose that’s just the nature of comedy as not every joke is going to stick. The art and sound design were about average for a seasonal show, but since the main draw of this anime is through its writing it's not something I paid much attention to during my watch. Overall, Nagatoro is a fine comedy in an otherwise slow season for anime with nothing outright terrible about it, but also nothing outstandingly exceptional in any one area. If this is your kind of show you have probably already watched it by now and if it isn’t your type of show there are several comedy anime I would recommend for you before this one.
