Review of Play It Cool, Guys
I genuinely liked this show a lot. It's a very cosy, comforting feel-good anime. Nothing too flashy, just day- to-day things in the day-to-day lives of a group of guys. The thing I liked the most about this anime is that our protagonists range from school going to college students to working adults. It's a breath of fresh air to see that the one being silly and nonchalant is not a cherry picked pre-pubescent boy. I would have given the Anime a higher rating because I really found it therapeutic but there are a few things that kept me from doing the same. The first thingis obviously the fetishization of male relationships. It's really difficult to find a new anime where the male characters interact normally and its not a BL bait. Honestly, I have kind of given up. So I tried to ignore the baiting in this show just to enjoy the otherwise good stuff.
The other thing also branches from the fetishization. It's how all the women around the men, even the background ones, constantly fawn over the men themselves or regularly act hyperinterested in the lives of the men. The women are always making the first move or trying to hit on the men or are mesmerized by how pretty they are while the men act completely disinterested in the foreground naive to the situation. This fujoshi pandering was a complete ill-fit in a show which is trying to replicate how normal guys would go about in their real lives.
The art is simple and sweet, The first opening is very nice. The author makes sure to make every two characters interact so it's a bowl of wholesomeness altogether (apart from the, you know what).
