Review of Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Side Story
It's hard to adapt a mobile gacha game into a good anime, especially one based on the legendary Madoka Magica series. Magia Record tried its hardest but I believe it falls victim to the story. The show is goddamn beautiful and has some really good character designs but the story failed to keep me interested. Too many things happen at the same time, with seemingly little relevance and impact on the plot. This show feels more like a regular magical girl show with dark elements, rather than the original series' full dive into the dark aspects. The original show had a clear, concise story in12 episodes that wrapped up every character's arc. Magia Record has too many characters, too many unimportant events, and not enough resolution. Again, due to it being an adaptation of a gacha game. This show is worth watching for the visuals and music, if nothing else. In another world where this was really a story made for an anime, maybe this would have been a lot better. My only hope is that Season 2 resolves the issues that this season had, but I won't get my hopes up.
