Review of BOFURI: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense.
The inverse of "Rise of The Shield Hero" and "Sword Art Online" that outdoes them both: young girl has unobstructed moderated fun-time with shield while everyone around cheers. As It's better than Cautious Hero, Shield Hero, SAO and Re;Zero, it's absolutely worth the watch if you have any interest in isekai/VR topic. The most astonishing part of it though is how battle tactics and strategy of players actually make sense and have no ass-pull powers or "I won because I yelled louder" moves. The game is designed believably but, at the same time, the way that real developers wouldn't want or be allowed to do: insteadof typical MMO grind of same character-types using same gears and tactics it allows unique builds and variations by drowning players in more world content than they physically can manage. That allows them to develop all kind of ways and playstyles which makes things interesting. Overpowered abilities are allowed because any player can get something for themselves that could be negated by others, so party synergy and reconnaissance of battlefield play a major role. That allows casuals to stand a chance against hardcore grinders by mixing things up. And with ridiculously perfect immersion like that, even just sight-seeing and going for a walk is guarantee for a good time.
Another strong point is animation that most other action anime would be jealous of. Even at places where frame count or fluidity is lacking, scenes hold strong due to clear implications from good battleground overview and tactics, so you as a viewer always know what is happening where and why.
