Review of The King's Avatar
High production values but lacks substance The anime starts strong and promising following an apparently OP skilled pro-gamer who is smooth, cool and seemingly unbeatable. I guess this will appeal very much to most shut-in NEETs dream persona. Oh and he gets to mentor a naturally skilled cute girl gamer. However there seems to be a strong lack of plot, with almost an introduction of new characters each episode. Repetitive scenes of displaying keyboard APMs, combat techniques. There was very little to none character development or particularly smart tactical elements (like in Blue Steel, No Game No Life, Log Horizon etc). The rate of new characters beingintroduced (with lack of strong character introduction and impression), leave me from time to time confused who is who. (Eg. even shows I don't watch like Naruto have very impressionable and memorable characters as an example). They seem to be continuously to be rapidly introduced to somehow keep the show going. All in all it is a reasonably good fun addicting show to watch, and probably not a marketing technique if they thinking about actually producing the game sometime in the future. However the the season finale is finally done and dusted, it felt a shallow show without much to reflect upon akin to say watching a Transformers movie...
