Review of My Love Story!!
It's a 24-episode series adapted from the shoujo manga of the same name. Just letting it out there--this isn't the kind of anime that's meant to be thought-provoking, or be set up with a cast of complex and multidimensional characters with multiple plot twist. What we have here is, instead, a simple love story between two nicely fleshed out characters, with just enough introduction of conflicts and interesting minor characters to keep things interesting. Story is dead simple--boy meets girl. That's all there is to it. There are trials and tribulations, but it's relatively minor, and there aren't really any gut punches that will keep youreeling like some animes do. Minor plot points involving characters other than main 3 characters are also interesting and do not feel like after thoughts. But again, it's not complex. Story is not--and is not meant to be--engaging.
Art is outstanding, with the style that I am a fan of. You can see some cut corners occasionally, but that's the norm and I wouldn't take any points off because it's not very glaring. Nice use of budget.
But budget took a hit in terms of sound--OP is literally played everywhere. But I guess that's the norm, too. But variety would've been nice.
Characters are quite likable, aside from those that obviously shouldn't be. But even unlikable characters seem to have a habit of turning around. This is a feel-good anime and it sticks to its mission. Depth is lacking, and even the deepest, darkest secrets... tend not to be. Closest thing to revelations are probably backstories.
I enjoyed the show greatly. I wasn't in the mood for anything heavy and this fit the bill to a T. I wouldn't recommend it to someone looking for adult-y cyberpunk-y over the top grimdark anime that we sometimes have a kick for. Watch it when you want to feel warm and fuzzy, with enough humor to keep you laughing, to boot.
