Review of Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day
I can't say I didn't like this anime but I can't say either from my point of view that it was excellent. It sure is a beautiful and sad story, the kind that make you laugh and cry at the same time. But I can't help thinking that it could have been better in many ways. I think the show is sometime too dramatic or maybe too childish. What makes me say that is the fact that the characters are always crying (I feel like it ended up being too "weepy") and that the dialogues were sometimes too simple, nay simple-minded. I think this anime could havebeen better if it had a darker aspect, or at least a more serious and adult tone.
Maybe I wasn't simply the target, but for example I largely prefer Angel Beats in the way it treats death, friendship and the way it deals with sadness/humour.
I'm realizing I'm maybe a bit tough, and I shouldn't since it's a quite good anime with good issues (and I think I would recommend it to people). But I also wanted to explain why I couldn't be totally absorbed by this anime. I assume we can't like everything
