Review of Neon Genesis Evangelion
20/100 I want to talk about an important rule in filmmaking, whether it is live action, animation, or anything else. You have all heard of it before, the most important rule of all: show, don't tell. On the surface, this is a show about mechas fighting, but deep down it has so much more potential. The author did try to weave in philosophical elements, and it becomes especially apparent in the last few episodes. However, the journey there is a super slow burn, nothing really happens for about 20 episodes. This is not a rule that can be broken like the 180 degree rule Kurosawa broke. Show, donot tell must be followed. We should respect traditional storytelling rules if we want to create something great.
The last two episodes were decent, so for that, I will give this show 20 points out of 100.
