Review of The Secret World of Arrietty
I find the mother and Haru very much annoying though Haru is the main villain in a way so it makes sense how she would be portrayed this way but it was too much to deal with at times that I had to swear to release the anger...which one could argue makes the movie even better. Aside from these two characters though, I love every other aspect of the movie. The sound and music throughout was marvellous. The patter of the rain would most definitely beat the rainfall sounds found on youtube and there is a particular scene where Arietty leaves the house for herfirst borrowing. The metallic sound of her and her father stepping on the very edgy yet very sketchy nail steps was pure gold (or should I say steel..ouch sorry)
I would’ve loved to see more scenes with the grandmother as she seems as sweet as a *cough* sugar cube but she could honestly be my waifu in 60 years time and she fulfills in her role to hand out information to further the plot.
The scene where Sho brings up his pessimistic views of borrowers going extinct was a particularly good scene in my opinion. Not only does it create a better understanding for the audience about the dangers of being smol but it also reminds us that there’s still a whole wide world out there and the dangers don’t suddenly disappear once Arietty and her family move house causing worry to overflow in me like flushing a blocked toilet.
