A Certain Magical Index is what you call "Science Fantasy". It was made by the creators of "ToraDora!" and has possibly one of the best English dubs I've seen from Funimation. I don't really understand all of the criticism this show gets. Many argue that the story is deceptive in the fact that everything goes downhill after the first story arc. In defense, it is a Light Novel adaptation, so it's got a lot of information and description to thrash out. I personally consider the first book (first 6 episodes) to be a story in itself, with the rest of the television series to be acouple of extensions for fun.

Not sure what it is about this anime in particular, but a lot of really great things click together to my preferences. You've got an entire world of science vs. magic and a distinctly-unique world comparable to that of J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle Earth. In the midst of the confusion, I love the fact that the main character is some dimwit below-average guy without any special powers at his utility. Throughout the show, he uses his brain and good morals to counter both witchcraft and confusing situations. The best part is: every battle involves him using his right fist alone, knocking out every villain in his path.

Gender Equality punch go!

Overall, this series can get you lost in all of it's details if you aren't one for paying attention to details. However, if you find yourself appreciating the characters, I guarantee you won't get lost. I personally really enjoyed it and I honor it's bravery in an industry filled with harems and power-up scenes. I'm anticipating the release of a third season!

Overall - 9/10
