Review of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End

If you’re looking for an action packed anime then Frieren is not for you, because Frieren is all in on its characters. The characters, their relationship and their development are the whole focus of this anime. To explore said characters both the plot and world building are kept rather simple. This is Firerne’s biggest Strength and Weakness. The are some interesting characters like the main charachter Frieren herself and her story is beautiful portrait, but if you don't resonate with the rest of the main cast then there is nothing else for you to fall back on and it becomes very boring to watch, ifyour favorite characters are not on screen. This becomes especially a problem when you happen to understand the Names, which are all German words. In most cases the name tells you all about the character and their behavior, making them very predictable.
Another big weak point is the overuse of flashbacks and parallels. A lot of conflicts or development is resolved by having two people having nearly the exact same experience. These flashbacks are often used to help Frieren reflect on her past and a lot of symbolism is used to enrich the characters and their relationships, but often it feels like the same story is told twice.
