Having no prior knowledge of Devilman beforehand, I had no idea what to expect. I haven't read the manga, and I wasn't aware of the original show. I went in completely blind, and therefore my expectations weren't overly high, despite all the hype surrounding the series. Needless to say, those expectations were completely shattered. I loved every moment of this show. It was brutal, unapologetically uncensored, exciting, emotional and thought provoking. At first I didn't like the art style at all, it looked very crudely drawn and the colours were not vibrant. That all changed during the second half of the first episode. where Iwas blown away by the colours and style of animation. It may look weird at times but when this show tries to look good, it looks absolutely fantastic.

I thought the OST was very good, it fit perfectly with the theme of the show. and although I didn't know of the original series, I appreciated the nod to the original theme that played early in the series. The opening theme is quite repetitive, but oddly catchy.

I very much liked the cast of characters. Seeing Akira's transformation was great to see. and Ryo's character was definitely the most interesting. Not to mention Miki and her family. who all have a fair amount of screen time and are all generally likeable, especially Tare, Miki's little brother.

This show is not for the faint of heart. You will see a lot of blood, gore and nudity, and you will be subjected to dark themes and disturbing scenes. If this is your type of thing, then you will most certainly love this show. If not, then I'm not sure if I can recommend it.

Overall, Devilman: Crybaby was a roller coaster ride of emotions and violence. If you're a fan of action anime with lots of violence and gore. Then this seems like a no brainer. I give Devilman: Crybaby a 9/10.
