I claim that Lunge is the real protagonist, and that Diogenes wrote the plot. The core engine of the show is tackling with the belief system that humans use. The belief one is a monster, the belief one was tortured, the belief that one has no name, that one was not wanted, that all humans are evil, that one will become the second Adolf, the belief one is a serial killer, that one is never wrong, that perfect criminals dont exist, that rules books are absolute, that one`s father was not a spy, that one was robbed of his emotions, that one master`s work is agospel, that the dam is a beautiful lake, that one is a real monster, that a monster can be defeated by only a bigger monster....
Do actions or thinking null beliefs. To dive deep into the surreal consciousness of one self that Salvador Dali often spoke of, and to become what you are as Nietzsche said.
Lunge the militaristic, disciplined, almost droid-like BKA inspector has descended upon this rabbit hole the furthest whilst keeping his sanity, and in the end found what he was looking for.
The songs dissect the show pretty well:
"How can the right thing be so wrong? I`ve found mistakes. For the love of life. We`ll defeat this. They may tear us down. But we`ll go down fighting. Wont we?" - i Lunge bids this to Grimmer in the finale. Rest of the song is finding the truth when descending into the abyss, but theres risk of losing yourself and going mad like Nietzsche.
"Yes. Search at what you can understand in this world. Yes. Look at what i believe in this world. Make it home to your land of harmony. Make it home to your land of purity. Make it home. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Observe of what i comprehend till now. Yes. Accept as true, the warmth of your heart. Make it home. Make it home to your land of harmony. Make it home to your land of purity. Make it home. Yes. Yes. Yes. " - Its describing how people are falling into the comfort zone of their emotion instead of using reason and judgement. The first part is Johan, the supposed emotionless antithesis that brakes character and even passes out from surge of emotions at one point in the show, trying to gaslight Tenma into his world of fear and terror. The second part is Tenma trying to gaslight Johan into his world of compassion and love.
The other themes are bodywork of a motor vehicle.
