Asmodeus Will Not Give Up · review
Asmodeus wa Akiramenai is your typical cliché manga, but it barely saves itself by not relying on the tired "isekai adventurer" excuse just to build a harem. It at least tries a different approach, which makes it a little more passable. Story: 5.2 It’s not an isekai where the MC is an adventurer, so I’ll give it some points for that. It’s a standard harem manga with your regular ecchi fanservice, where all the girls are head over heels for the protagonist, but the MC has a docile personality. He never chooses anyone and takes zero initiative to go down any specific route. Given this basic foundationthat countless harem series use, what makes Asmodeus wa Akiramenai slightly different is the fact that the heroines are demons with powers, tied to the lore of King Solomon. This actually gives the plot a reason to move forward; otherwise, it would just be repeating the exact same jokes and clichés over and over. It features the typical filler arcs that you can skim or skip entirely without missing anything (the beach arc, the trapped-in-a-video-game arc, the board game arc)—the usual mini-arcs that every harem series uses.
Art: 4.8
Honestly, the art is on the level of a generic light novel manga adaptation—in other words, nothing special or mind-blowing. There wasn’t a single page that made me stop to appreciate the drawing. The art is simple, but to the mangaka's credit, the heroines have distinct details that differentiate them and reflect the characteristics of the demons they represent.
Characters: 5
We get the typical harem MC who is scared of women but has a "kind" personality that makes them all fall for him. Where the heroines actually "stand out" is that they aren't obnoxious. They fit the usual stereotypes (the tsundere, the shy one, the milf, etc.), but they don't become insufferable, nor do they have random, forced personality changes pulled out of nowhere halfway through the story. There isn't really any noticeable character growth, though I guess you could say they grow a tiny bit.
Overall
Asmodeus wa Akiramenai is not something you want to read if you are actively looking for something "good." If you are just starting to read manga, there are way better options out there, even within the harem genre (like Kanojo mo Kanojo, which is an excellent choice). Asmodeus wa Akiramenai is simply a manga to read when you have absolutely nothing else to do, and once you finish it, you can flex that you read an obscure manga that hardly anyone knows about and will never get an anime adaptation.
