Review of The Eminence in Shadow Season 2
The Eminence in Shadow S2 is pretty good and it's the logical follow up of the first season : the story still revolves around our favorite chuunibiyou Cid Kagenou and his crazy adventures. It's the same silly humor, there are some plot developments that feel coherent with the story and the MC's delusions are always funny to watch. There is still your fair amount of fan service that was also in S1, and the animation is pretty clean aswell. The soundtrack is on par with the animation's quality, and there are many famous seiyuus in this show. We can praise this show/story for standing outin the isekai genre, it's not easy to do so, but the story is rather original considering how absurd/convoluted it becomes because of the main character's actions. The only drawback I can think of is the lack of S1 recap. This might be nitpicking because the story is both important and not that much since the few arcs in S2 aren't heavily related to the S1 events, but I found it a bit hard to remember some aspects of the story and the different parties/characters involved. Even if it fits the "ironic" tone of the show, I would have liked a real recap instead of the joke they used to sum up the older events.
All in all, this show was entertaining to watch : the rhythm was good and so was the animation. This second season remained true to the first one's atmosphere : the show never takes itself too seriously, there's comedy, there's action, there are many beautiful looking waifus, and at the center of it all, there's the greatest mastermind of all time, the man who foresaw everything... Lord Shadow himself.
