Review of Suzume
It was simply amazing one of the most artistically beautiful pieces of animation I’ve ever seen. Every Makoto Shinkai tries to improve the animation of the previous and while I thought nothing could surpass the comet scene in Your Name, this movie finally gave me something even more breathtaking in terms of pure artistry. The story, on the other hand, wasn’t the strongest. It felt more like a thread connecting the visual spectacles together than a truly gripping narrative. And because of that, the emotional beats didn’t land as hard as they did in Your Name. The best part about the movie was the visuals. The scenewhere Suzume discovers the door in the empty stadium and steps into that night sky horizon it was just amazing, one of the most beautiful moments I’ve seen in animation.
The characters themselves were fine, but nothing too memorable compared to the imagery surrounding them.
Overall, Suzume is a must-watch for anyone who wants to experience a stunning piece of animated art. Precaution is that the story is serviceable at best ig.
Rating: 8/10 (10/10 for visuals, 6.5/10 for story)
