It hurts to see something you enjoyed so much and liked so much lose its way in the last few episodes. This series was a clear 9 for me if it wasn't for the last few stories that really brought out the worst. I think my rating is based a lot on my personal enjoyment so take it with a grain of salt ! Horimiya is fresh, vibrant and so polished on the surface. It's fast paced, witty, great writing and very subtle, yet brilliant comedy. I had such a blast watching this anime, it just felt like something new and clearly very modern. Itwould lure you into thinking that it would go into a cliche trap, but surprise you with twists everywhere it goes. so fun!

There's a lot of talk about the toxicity of the relationship of Hori and Miyamura, but I personally didn't feel like it was intentionally portrayed that way... I think that it was definitely something that was saturated with a lot of comedy and served to present the quirks of their relationship. It didn't bother me at all and I liked both characters.

Side characters, that's where things go a little awry. I think that this series needed more episodes, and needed more time in general. Maybe if this was a 22 episode feature, everything would be better and all plots would be given justice. It's just that there were just so many characters crammed in here, with an abundance of personalities and opportunities, but they were sadly wasted because,, hello? it's only a 13 episode show. It rather annoys me that if the creators got rid of characters to prioritise the story, fans would get upset, but if they decide to keep everyone in and do a half-ass job, everyone is upset too??? People need to calm down, it's a 13 episode series.

Putting that aside, I think that you will surely be able to find a character that you like or relate to, it's a really interesting slice of life that centers on a couple but bleeds into other relationships and stories. Sadly, there's only so much room for improvement but again, it was such an enjoyable ride. I definitely recommend for people who want to watch an obviously modern romcom and SOL.
