Review of Mobile Suit Gundam: GQuuuuuuX
GQuuuuuuX title is such a joke. I have never remember how many U are in there. So I just called it G Quacks all the time. First of all, the mobile suits design. This has the fugliest mobile suits design I have ever seen in Gundam History, surpassing Tekketsu no Orphens in terms of ugliness. Abomination is the right word. They resembles Evangelion which is the fugliest mecha in robot animation history and nothing else come close, except Gundam FreD, Psycho Gundam, and Akai Gundam here. The character design is a mixed between old style and newer style which is something unusual but not a bad thing. The animation is pretty good, even for new standards. It is not the best for sure, but still on the very good side. They use 3D anime shader for the mobile suits but it doesn't feel out of place. The movements are pretty smooth but still gives robotic feel, although some movements feel unrealistic.
The music is okay. Nothing catchy for me. Just mm-hmm... not bad, but nothing like capturing my attention.
The sound effect bring back some nostalgic feel because it use some of the older sound effects for the mobile suits.
The voice acting is pretty good. I like how Challia Bull and Char Aznable being voiced here. It brings the good side of them. The calm voice but also gives the feel they are someone who are powerful.
The main 2 girls, Amate/Machu and Nyaan are voiced by Kurosawa Tomoyo and Ishikawa Yui. My thumbs up to Kurosawa Tomoyo for making Machu's voices and emotions feels so right. However, Ishikawa Yui as Nyaan feels hit and miss. Rather inconsistent of how I feel for the voice and emotion. In some cases, it feels like Enterprise from Azure Lane, but sometimes also reminds me of Mikasa from Shingeki no Kyojin or Violet from Violet Evergarden. I feel like I am not seeing a new character here.
The story takes place of alternate universe of UC timeline. So, instead of going multiverse in different timeline like the usual Gundam, this time they got with multiverse in similar timeline. Sounds like Marvel and DC nowadays, which is a sign of bad thing because this also sign they run out of ideas to expand the story of the original timeline and instead of going forward, they go sideways and back.
The problem with this story... it feels really forcing something that is not meant to be in Gundam Universe. This takes several elements of Evangelion, which feels like garbage that should be incinerated, but instead it is being recycled with little improvement and practically still a garbage.
Conclusion:
I am being so meany here, but I really mean it. The might seem creative but it just doesn't fit in Gundam Universe and should be incinerated from Gundam Universe. If there are more Gundam stories like this, then Gundam Universe will be ended up corrupted, just like the government of your country.
