Review of A Place Further Than The Universe
五つの単語批評❕ Very compelling, wonderfully emotional adventure. Footnote: This one really surprised me. It starts out as a fairly standard looking slice-of-life with high school girls; the kind of anime you only watch if you like the genre....but the concept of travelling to Antarctica is so odd that I watched out of curiosity, and it ended up being AMAZING. A Place Further Than the Universe manages to bottle up that feeling of being 17 years old and finding something in yourself that you never knew you had. There are no cheap dopamine tricks here; no sexy stuff, battles, or love triangles. It's just four friends planning and going on anexpedition together, but the characters' passion and wonder is so contagious that I couldn't help but lap up every minute.
The slow pace and lack of aforementioned dopamine tricks will be a deal-breaker for some, but I think most anime fans could get something out of this genuinely compelling, genuinely heartwarming little story. I know I did.
