Review of School Days

I know I'm late as hell to the party. But yanno what, here I go: What's in the bag? What's in the bag!? Of all the anime I've seen over the years, this was certainly one of them. It was impactful but I'm still not sure if it was good or bad. It was something though. Story 5/10 What a hot mess. There is so much to talk about so I will try to boil it down to a few key points: Crazy bitches be crazy. Dude played the game of dick and got shanked. Where TF are any of these kids' parents. So our MCguy lusts for some random broad (G1) he saw on the train. His friend (G2) tries to help him get the girl but puts moves on his dick herself. G2 has some friends who support her topically but end up boning MC. G1 believes that MC is her boyfriend even though others tell her that the MC is screwing around. G1 is probably out of her good mind halfway through the show. All the misc people at the school are bullies who give everyone a hard time. I really hoped that they would catch some hands. G2 finds out about MC's screwing around and gets sad. She declares she is pregnant with MC's kid in school. MC is trash so he tells her to get lost and gets back with delusional G2. Bitches go crazy and people get stabbed.

Fuck. What the fuck did I just type. I honestly don't even know if it was a good story or a bad story.

Characters 3/10

Fuck these losers. Was there a character with redeeming qualities? Maybe MC's dude friend who was outrightly horny. At least he owned up to his perverseness. Everyone else was straight trash.

MC was trash. I hated everything about him. First, his dopey-ass face, dimwitted face. It was so punchable. And the stupid hair. How do have so much hair in your face and an up-pointing twang of a bird-tail on the back? He deserved to be beaten with a brick in a sock just for the hair. And his voice. How could it happen that everything he said had the tone of Durrgh?
And what trash qualities he had. Just dicking everything without a thought in the world. Loyal to your GF? No way! He just caught a glimpse of another chick's cleavage. Instant cheat. Fuck this dude.

Katsura was a crazy bitch. Kind of felt sorry for her. She was obviously sheltered and did not have the mentality to deal with the mess of a MC, Sekai, and all the bullies at school. She got bullied by the other girls and I hated it. She was well within her rights to splash them with something, push them down stairs, accidentally run them over with a car, or something. Poor girl was caught up in it. She needed some friends.

Sekai was a manipulative bitch. I knew she was trouble in the first episode when she tried to set up MC with Katsura and then kissed him out of nowhere. She played around and found out. Goddamn.
And the rest of them were cheats and bullies. Fuck em.

Art 5/10

The art was very mid 2000s.

I did not dig the character designs. Too big eyes and hair. Too cutesy for my tastes. They looked really cartoony and I have a hard time relating to characters that look way out there.

The backgrounds and effects looked good. I liked the trains in the city. It was pretty. The art was pretty consistent throughout. At no point did I think to myself that they really cut corners with scene. It was overall decent art.

Sounds 7/10

The music was actually pretty good. The OP was a cheerful pop number that started being inappropriate halfway through. The ED was decent for the show. I liked that they long-played some ballads during the dramatic parts of the show. I had no idea what the lyrics meant but it upped the melodrama nicely.

The voices were decent. I hated the MC's voice. He sounded like a dope. Everyone else's voice was okay.

There weren't many memorable sound effects. This was a drama so there were no explosions, gunshots, or transforming robot noises.

Enjoyment 4/10

I got pretty mad at the characters in the show. It got a reaction out of me. I did not have a good time but I did have an emotional one. It was an experience, though.

When I decided to watch this, I was looking for some trash and boy did I find it. I didn't like any of the characters or the situation, but the over-the-top drama kept me going to the next episode.

Admittedly, I had a hard time getting through the beginning and middle episodes. During them, I'd pause halfway through, do something else for half an hour, and then forget about what happened in the prior scene. It took some willpower to get through those eps. But as the series got to the homestretch, I was glued. I needed to finish it. I was drawn in.

So I will give it that. As much as i didn't like it, I made it through 12 episodes. It drew me in with the crazy drama. I'm proud to say that I have clear of soap operas and reality TV for most of my life. But now I get why people like their trash. It's the spice of life.
