Review of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion
Code Geass R1 creates a world and story that immediately hooks you. Lelouch's transition from student to revolutionary is natural. The mystery of Geass and C.C. is engaging and well build. The plot twists hit like an 18 wheeler. I wish I could wipe my memory so I could experience the story for the 1st time again. The Art has a very obvious 90s - 00s aesthetic, which gives each character and Knight-mare a distinct look. I personally enjoy the jagged look of Code Geass, but objectively it is nothing spectacular. I could give the sound an 8 just because of the opening alone, but even ontop of the steller opening the sound effects of the explosions, the battle themes, and the voice acting bring you into this world of giant fighting robots.
Where do I even start with the characters? The whole series is basically a tangled web of interactions and motives between characters leading to conflict and alliances. Even the smallest side character has a moment in the spotlight that influences the direction of the story, and the direction of the story influences the actions of the characters.
Personally, I loved R1 and I burnt through the whole season in only a few days. I couldn't get enough of all the characters, and always looked for answers to every question the show presents.
Overall I would give R1 a 9/10
