Alright I'm going to preface this review by stating that this anime did not make me cry as was promised. In fact it made me feel no emotions other than mild boredom. Despite this however I would say that I enjoyed watching it with my friends as they seemed bothered by my interrupting emotional scenes with jokes insensitive to a dead child. But I mean come on, maybe a bitch shouldn't have taken a tumble. The art was beautiful, and as a connoisseur of the Japanese art form know as hentai; I am a sucker to shows that got eye candy. The opening is beautifully animatedwith a plethora of symbolism for the more inquisitive viewer to decode. The characters are each designed in ways that reflect their personality, which I respect even for the characters I don't care for.

For sound you already know the ending song, "Hidden Base." It's quite popular and has led many weebs to the brink of depression with its mesmerizing almost hypnotic melodies and sorrows. Personally, I got a sort of nostalgic feeling listening to the song. The same feeling you have remembering childhood friendships that have long been withered away.

Now for characters. Jinta is the protagonist and I don't like him. He would rather waste away in self-pity becoming a neet than face his problems. However by the end of the show I grew to respect his development into a functioning member of society. As for Menma don't even get me started; she's an annoying, flat onee-san, dumb dead loli that I would like to hit with my bat. The only redeeming quality of Menma is that she pisses off in the end. Naruko is a gyaru that hangs with her fake friends because she's too scared too make amends with her old ones. She also has a case of boring stereotypical tsundere syndrome which is annoying for both me and Jinta. Yukiatsu is the best character because he is voiced by Takahiro Sakurai who voices best dilf Oshino Meme from the Monogatari series. Poppo got a whole lotta love and a cause of best boy syndrome. Honestly just a real bro. Chiriko would be best girl if not for her dissing my boy Yukiatsu.

Overall it's pretty good show but be prepared for an emotional trip, or not.
