Review of Kiss x Sis (TV)
Normally I don't make separate reviews for sequels or side story animes. For the most part I tend to like sequel seasons and side stories just as much as the first so I don't feel the need to write separate reviews. For Kiss X Sis though I will say that there was definitely enough of a difference to warrant separate reviews. Since I've already reviewed the OVA and went over the various aspects that I liked about it I will go ahead and make this review a comparison to the OVA. I'd recommend after reading this review to read my review of the OVA aswell.
So I absolutely loved the OVA. I put the OVA in my favorites list because I enjoyed it so much. After finishing the OVA I was really looking forward to getting more Kiss X Sis. Upon completion of the TV version I will say that its still very good because its still Kiss X Sis and I love the whole story and fun nature of this show in general but the TV version definitely has a noticeable drop in quality from the OVA.
The main thing that made the OVA amazing was the incredible blend of ecchi hotness and comedy. Watching the girls turn shamelessly sexually harassing their brother into an art form was hilarious to watch and you were also always rooting for the girls to succeed so you could get rewarded with hot ecchi scenes which the OVA made sure to deliver on perfectly. Anticipating what the girls were going to do next was another big part of the comedy, and whenever you heard the jazz song come on you knew something was about to go down.
With the TV version, its like the creators often forgot what show they were making. There were several episodes where the only sexual scene in the episode was very brief and I think there was one episode where they didn't even have one. Whereas the OVA always seized the opportunity to make a scene lewd, the TV version backs away quite a bit. Compared to the OVA, they really toned down the ecchiness a lot and I think the quality suffered because of it since hard ecchi is such a big part of what Kiss X Sis is about.
That being said, I'm quite aware of the fact that I'm only saying this because I just came from watching the OVA, which, is truly special. If you haven't seen the OVA yet and can't compare, you're going to think the TV version is pretty intense. Watching the TV version while anticipating the OVA should be pretty fun. So my recommendation personally, is to watch the TV version first, it introduces you to the characters, concept, and general feeling of the show, and upon completing it, keep in mind that the OVA is much much better and prepare yourself ;)
