Review of Paprika
Being one of the few anime that have prompted me to write a review, Paprika is an experience to say the least. Full of mind bending animation sequences, its strong suit is the wildly imaginative scenes and fluid, vibrant animation. In a way it feels like the creators of the movie created it just for the sake of creating these wonderful sequences, and the story was written as a secondary thing. The story is really confusing and really weird. The creators of the movie tried to do several different things at the same time with their different characters, and in the process failed to comeup with one consistent and cohesive narrative or theme. The ending is absolutely ridiculous and nonsensical as well.
If you are going into this movie to see a really well written story, this is not it. While they do try to explore some interesting ideas, the execution is half-baked and unsatisfactory. If you are going into this movie to experience the amazing animation, imaginative scenes, and the overall "experience", you will find it quite enjoyable.
