Since it's a pretty old show, I will only write the good and the bad parts of Anno's theoretical approach. Some spoilers included unintentionally- The Good ones: -Knowledge of the splitting of bad and good objects based on the breast of Shinji' and Asuka' mother. -Klein's interpretation of Freud as a paranoid-schizoid stage(at the end of Todestrieb) -Depressive stage(splitting the objects, as well as the ego, have become the whole) -Mirror stage- entering into the symbolic order(Not bad exactly, it was represented automatically) -Projection of ego-libido vs. object-libido(Freud's comment on the three essays.) -Adam Kadmon and the representation of Binah as Lilith(Kaji's suffering lead to kindness speech was good for thetree of life)
-Clark & Chalmers The Extended Mind projection
-Angels vs. Eva units
-AT field description

The Bad ones:

-Overexplicit understanding of the Oedipus and Electra complex
-Shouting about the symbols in the show prevents the audience to dig into them
-Lack of enough knowledge on psychoanalysis, some aspects of the human psyche are reduced
-The description of desire, the jouissance of Nancy and Lacan and Deleuze's rectifying desire are missed
-Not a bad end, but only serves for the purpose of the deconstruction of the genre as many said

Overall, the creator's good effort of blending the theories by means of his search of the Self as well as Selflessness has been presented, however, his understanding of the concepts is not exactly complete in themselves. Not a pretentious story, as far as I understand, I appreciate him but I was expecting much more than this. So, 7 would be a fair score for the legend of NGE.
