Review of The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya
I have high hopes for this movie after done watching the 2 seasons of the anime, and fortunately, the movie did not let me down. There are 2 main groups of movies you usually see for anime: 1. They are usually recapping and summarising what happened in the main season with only a few xtras included. 2. They provide a continuation of the storyline from the main series or some other side stories. I was glad when I watch it since this movie falls on the 2nd group. This movie tolds a (but somewhat related to the main series) different story from the main series. If you are expectingthe quality that they have shown from the main series, it is quite as good as it or may even be better than the main series
Why?
First off, is the storyline and the characters in the movie. As you can tell from the title itself, it tells about Suzumiya Haruhi dissapearing/not existing from Kyon's point of view. This may result in less enjoyment if you really like to see her everytime (besides Kyon's usual remarks) as majority of the movie, you won't see her at all. As for Negato, well I like her a lot so I was glad she got a lot more screening time in this movie beacause of... well just see.
Anyway, what I saw in the main series is quite different from what I saw in the main series as the character becomes for developed and some paranomal thing happening throughout the length of the movie. The way it was presented is understandable for everyone to watch though at times, I wish it could be faster. However, the overall enjoyment for the story keep me curious and continue watching This very solid storyline which is very original and captivating which was the main support in making this movie a very successfull one.
Secondly is the art. Theres nothing much I could say on this as it is mostly the same as the main season but with slightly better use of colours so I can last for that hold 3 hours of seeing the same colour contrast without much eye pain in the end.
Lastly is the sound, which plays a larger role as compared to art. One could that there's not much difference compared to the series in terms of the OP and the ED(I think I heard it somewhere b4 for the ED). But the BGM I could say is pretty good. It provides the viewer the right emotions to be expressed and the 'chill' effect which makes the movie much more enjoyable that it already should be.
Thus, I gave the movie a score of 9. I strongly recommend you go check it out and watch it. You will most probably won't find it a wastage to watch as regard it as one of those 3 hours of your life time worth spending on. I obviously do not regret watching this movie.
What you waiting for? Go and watch it ASAP!
