This review is very fresh as I have just finished Hyouka. It struck to me as if creator(s) of Hyouka drew inspiration from 2005 movie Brick (I liked it) as well as 2010 movie Sherlock, even Oreki kind of reminds of BC. However these so called mysteries here are so mundane that one could hardly fit this anime into said genre. More than anything else, to me it felt like a light satire, or a very respectful, very Japanese parody of mystery. Don't get me wrong, it is not at all comedic. It is not even that fun to be honest, the tone is very calm, even lethargic.

Perhaps it is not a nice introduction, but Hyouka really is a good, if not a bit pretentious, anime that I enjoyed watching quite a bit.

I find it interesting and relaxing, it delves into character analysis in a very non forced way.

The only problem I found is not at all related to its slow pace but rather weak characters instead. There is evident character development when it comes to the main male lead but nothing much else.

However overall, I liked the underlying themes and messages in Hyouka which were implemented in a quite refined way.
