Review of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion
I will be using the spelling Brittanian in this review as this is how the spelling is in Code Geass. Code Geass R1 is the first season of the highly acclaimed mecha, drama, sci-fi, war story 2006 anime that is so iconic that people still talk about it to this day. It tells the story of Lelouch a britannian prince who got his mother murdered, and then he got disowned by his dad the britannian emperor, so he and his sister Nunally go into hiding in Japan now conquered by Britannia renamed to area 11 . One day he accidentally gets involved in a rebellion scheme, then gets a mysterious power called Geass from a mysterious woman C.C that allows him to state a one sentence command that forces people within eye contact range to obey his wishes, he then uses this power to try and change the world into a peaceful place for his blind sister Nunnally. This anime is one of my all time favorites, it not only has that crave factor that I crave for in an anime, it has good characters, a interesting story and premise for its time, banger of a soundtrack, great pacing and decent animation and artstyle that really suit it for what it is. It does have some plot holes here and there, and at a nutshell its a bunch of mecha robots fighting for political supremacy commanded by a scheming brittanian boy, but the plot problems well some of them do get resolved or patched later on, while some still remain to this day, but is mostly salvaged by the ending of the sequal R2 and the anime's beautiful message of one's mans sacrifice can sometimes be worth it for the greater good. At certain times there are some ridiculous scenarios, and bad decisions that bite Lelouch in the ass, plus writers are enabled to get themselves out of plotholes they made by using the power of Geass to bullshit their way out of it, but despite all this the entertainment value of the show and its epicness is way too good to pass up, also the show does a good job at sugarcoating these mistakes and letting them sink under the rug for the average viewer too bad people with good taste in anime see these problems clearly.
Pros:
- Epic mecha fight scenes
- Lelouch schemes are incredibly fun to watch whether they backfire or work
- Interesting characters and story
- Great chemistry of the cast and voice acting, powerful performance from Jun Fukuyama as Lelouch
- Decent dub I personally prefer the sub tho
- Banger soundtrack and themes
- Decent animation and artstyle for its time
- One of the most iconic anime of all time
- Extremely entertaining
- Big brain plot scheming anime are always nice to watch
- Has that crave factor that leaves you longing for the next upcoming episode
Cons:
-Terrible writing that causes plot holes here and there
-Screw Nina I don't care if she gets redeemed in season 2, but this girl is easily one of my most hated anime characters.
Overall Code Geass R1 is a pretty good first season with a exciting cliffhanger ending, and overall its a really good anime if you can look fast the plot holes here and there, but its entertaiment value is really high and watching it makes you crave for the next episode, if you like mecha and big brain scheming anime like Death Note then check Code Geass R1 out. I give Code Geass Lelouch Of The Rebellion R1 a 8/10 for my overall anime rating.
