Review of Ghost Hunt
Ghost Hunt is a show that is driven by story. The 25 episode anime is divided into 8 'cases'. The characters are fairly forgettable, and often inconsistent shifting from scared in a dire situation to comedic. The protagonist and cipher for the audience, is easily one of the more annoying characters placed on screen and suffers from the Lisa Simpson syndrome of asking too many questions, often at the wrong time. Worse she often complicates the situations for the self styled ghost hunters by acting out on her own initiative. The monk, Shinto priest and spirit medium (think Maya from Phoenix Wright)would have made far more interesting characters to follow.
Ultimately, the poor characterization can be suffered through. Most of the characters have no real arcs as this source material was an incomplete light novel series. What drives the series are the cases. Often interesting and never retreads due to the show's limited 25 episode run, there are quite a lot of highlights and the show not only gives a good spook but actually informs the audience on spirits and hauntings even if most of the history is made up for the story, the concept behind them are in the realm of folklore and are highly satisfying.
Highly Recommended.
