***This is the first season of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, not the second season (which is Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2). It contains 25 episodes, and so does the second season.*** Frankly, the first season of Code Geass is absolutely nothing without the second season. I definitely would rate it a 6. Whoever begins watching this will find a fast-paced yet somewhat lackluster plot, with some filler episodes to add as well. And for those who don’t like fan service, this show has some nudity and suggestive shots. However, that does not give the entirety of the show credit, so Ihave to give this a 10 since it does a good job establishing the world of Code Geass and has very interesting episodes a bit before and after the halfway mark and towards the end. It is also greatly enhanced by having watched the second season, since there is a lot of content that can be missed. Note that the problems first-time viewers might notice in this first season of Code Geass will also have them with the second season, so dropping this show is very common in the anime world as I currently understand.

FINAL THOUGHTS: I recommend giving this anime, and essentially the entirety of the anime, a good try if you are accustomed to reading negative reviews cast on Neon Genesis Evangelion and have patience for reasonably long anime. I also would give it a try if you know a substantial amount of politics and history. If you have watched Neon Genesis Evangelion before just note that Code Geass is definitely its most daring and challenging offspring out of all its offspring so to speak. Many passionately declare Code Geass as the GOAT. I would say nope: Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 is the GOAT...out of the many GOATs in the anime world. But in order to understand it and get into it, you need to try Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion as well as understand the context in which it was aired and when the series in general became popular in Japan and the US; for Japan it was around 2008 and for the US it was around 2009. Nonetheless, Code Geass is in style this day and age, as a sequel film will be released on February 9, 2019. But not to Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2, but to the movie trilogy released between October 2017 through May 2018 which tries to accommodate the plot of the original series but is different in some key ways. Lastly, avoid spoilers.

FINAL SCORE
Story: 6/10
Art: 7/10
Sound: 7/10

Enjoyment: 5/10
Overall: 10/10
