Plot: the plot is about a boy named Gon, who wants to become a Hunter in order to find his father. This is similar to Dragon Ball, but I enjoyed it more. It fathered a lot of tropes we see today in Shounen, but I think it stands the test of time way more than even a lot of modern shounen. Characters: They each go through realistic development through their interactions with others that changes them for better or worse. This makes sense because each character is on a quest and have a purpose. It can be something as simple as one wanting toget a job, and the other who wants to avenge the murder of his clan. You know, just typical shounen stuff. What makes this different is how drastic some of the morals of the characters change. Some go from bad to good and some go from good to bad. Not a typical villain turning good and good guy turning villain. Some of the good guys manage to still be a protagonist while doing objectively immoral things. It makes sense with their character as well, which is impressive as a writer.

Philosophy: so philosophy is written throughout this anime. Monsters vs humanity, honor amongst thieves, revenge, family, etc. All of that is explored with the characters and each character has their own struggle.

Flaws: even if I do talk it up, I do have some issues. For one, I hated how two different people essentially became the same person later on. That was very redundant, especially when they had different interactions and got different morals, only to end up with the same personality and motives. Another issue is the narrating and overexplaining of everything. As a narrator and author, it's important to give the audience enough information, but they give too much. For example:

Scene: Gon and Killua were running up a pair of stairs.
Narrator: "Gon and Killua run up the stairs, to their destination"
Scene: Gon and Killua arrive at their destination
Narrator: "Gon and Killua arrive at their destination"
Scene: Killua kills someone and runs to his destination
Narrator: "Killua has just killed someone, and is now running to his destination"

It would constantly be unneeded narration such as there. Like dude, I have eyes! I don't need you to narrate everything!

Aside from those few gripes, I highly recommend it.
