Review of Bakemonogatari
Everyone talks about Bakemonogatari, but is it worth the hype? Yes...and...no. This is one of those anime's that appeal to certain viewer types. If you're one for short-form mysteries and don't mind spending a little extra time for a big payout, this. is. it. The double-edge sword of the Monogatari series is the lengthy and complex dialogue/monologue from the characters that carefully illustrates their unique perspective and ideology. The animation is average for a slow drama, but every once in a while the studio will fish into their deep-ass pockets and release some sakuga that blows the nuts off of a squirrel's mouth. BUT THE FRONTRUNNERFOR WHAT IS BEST ABOUT THE ANIME IS... oh-es-tee.
The music in Bakemonogatari (and the whole Monogatari series) could win a grammy. The wide array of moods and instrumentals takes scenes in Bakemonogatari to the next level. I didn't really appreciate it until I found a soundtrack compilation on YouTube and revisited key scenes in the anime. The OPs/EDs are also legendary (case in point: there are a zillion reaction videos to JUST those parts of the show...).
9/10: The closest thing to a masterpiece, but it takes some warranted investment and cannot be watched if you aren't the right headspace :)
