+tic Elder Sister · review
I'm writing this review because +Tic Neesan seems criminally under-read to me. If you are a fan of the Konosuba/It's Always Sunny sort of model of humor (aka humor derived from reprehensible and weird characters with little to no sentimentality) then +Tic Neesan is for you. It does start off a little slow (I'm wondering if more than a few people dropped it after the first few chapters like I almost did) but once it finds its groove, +Tic Neesan can be absolutely hysterical. While the mange is ostensibly about a model club, there is very little about building models in it. Instead, it focuses onthe day to day hi-jinks of Neesan, a tiny, devious and energetic bully kept in check (sort of) by her club mates, the violent (usually justifiably) Okappa and the somewhat pathetic Makimaki. The main trio is joined by a slowly expanding cast of eccentric students and teachers. I think the author has a good sense for cutting bait on characters that aren't working and introducing new quirks to keep existing characters funny (Sasaki is one of the best side characters but only really becomes that when she's revealed to be an all-time great yandere). Chapters are short and its rare that any arc lasts more than a few chapters. +Tic Neesan is a gag comic through and through. If you are looking for character growth, look elsewhere.
The art is decent but not outstanding. It's a gag comic so of course a lot of the art is focused on being humorous and it does that very successfully. The art style is distinctive as well and as it has become more polished over the course of the manga, I've come to like it quite a bit. Okappa and Sasaki are both pretty cute, imo. As for fanservice, I think it would be a stretch to classify +Tic Neesan as an ecchi comic. Okappa, Makimaki and even Neesan end up in their underwear from time to time but it doesn't feel very fanservice-y to me (and I have no problem with fanservice. To-love Ru Darkness and Tejina Senpai are on my favorites list). That's not to say Neesan isn't raunchy (it often is), just that the manga always feels more focused on humor, rather than ecchi, if that makes any sense.
tl;dr +Tic Neesan starts off a little rocky but becomes excellent if you're somebody just looking for some pure comedy about jerks, misfits and weirdos.
