Review of Wonder Egg Priority: My Priority

If I was to sum up this special in one word, "disappointing" would be it. Based on the information that I am aware of, this is supposed to be the final conclusion for the series, finishing what the team was unable to finish the first time around with a fitting conclusion. The first 26 minutes serve as a recap of everything that happened up until this point, which I find sort of fine, as it has been a few months since I saw the show, and I didn't really remember everything that happened. EXCEPT for the fact that episode 8 was already a recap episode. Thisrecap did include a lot of the extra information included in the final 4 episodes, but it still took up the majority of this special and was pretty annoying. I would have much rather just rewatched the last 5 episodes of the show before watching this if it meant more things would get developed and finished.

As far as how it actually fails with an ending partially relates to the ending of the original TV run. Due to deadline restraints, it is speculated that the recap episode was thrown in last minute to give them some extra time to finish the last part of the show. There was some evidence that supported this other than the strangeness of the recap existing after only 8 episodes of a 12 episode show, the biggest one I remember being a twitter post where the crew was celebrating the release of episode 9, with a photo of a script for episode 8. That's at least what I remember hearing, and the fact that there is only one episode's worth of content in this special supports this. So many people, including me, were pretty ok with the confusing ending of the show, confident that the special would explain and conclude things, making up for the confusing ending. This special did not accomplish this. Instead of tying up loose ends, it added more. It did the exact opposite of what I wanted it to do.

It's still Wonder Egg Priority, a show which I still really enjoyed, with its great characters and beautiful design, but it is without a doubt incredibly disappointing. Unless a second season is announced I don't really think there is any way to salvage this ending. I haven't heard anything about a season 2 being planned, and with how much the special is getting slammed right now, I feel now would be a great time to do so to try to instill some hope in its fans again. If I had the knowledge that a season 2 was coming this would have probably been rated higher, but I do not have this knowledge, only the disappointment from the big let down this show was.
