Review of Redo of Healer

Story The story is nothing new or interesting. It is rather bland and boring, but we are not here for the story, we came to see the shock value. That is ultimately what saves this show from being a disaster. There are several episodes where there is plot progression without any shock value and those are the worse ones as I simply did not care enough and almost fell alseep. However at the same time, the overabundence of sex scenes becomes super repetitive and just simply annoying. It becomes a distraction more than anything sometimes. Very graphic scenes especially on the uncensored version, so viewer discretionis advised. With each episode, I just wait for them to top what they did in the previous episodes in terms of how twisted the torture scenes are.

Art

Nothing super unique or special about the artwork and animation. the colors can seem a bit washed out at times especially the lesser known characters.

Sound

I surprised to say it, but the opening and ending are both good, the ending especially. it sounds very very out of place as if the studio wanted to wash away the cringe and shock of watching this series.

Character

Not too much in this department. Some of the characters are overly cruel and exaggerated and I guess that is the point of the story. The main character is a grade A monster that doesnt develop too much, but I guess the point of the show is to show the depths of his cruelty, I rather watch that than watch this internal monologue about his emotions. A lot of the characters are one note with little to offer.

Enjoyment

Going into the show, I kinda knew what I was expecting: An edgy explicit dark fantasy and that is precisely what I got. The depths of depravity were far more deep than I imagined however and I did not like the episodes that did not have any shock value. I watched the series for not and not the story, which I found dreadfully boring. I watched it week by week and found it an interesting experience as there were times I could not sit through episodes because of a lack of shock value.

Overall

This is one of the shows I only watched to see if it was shocking as other people made it out to be. The first episode was very boring, but the 2nd and 3rd episode changed my mind. It is awful, but its hard to look away. I spent a lot of time cringing and shaking my head while wondering how this show get greenlit. Did the showrunners expect the controversy to draw attention to the series. Well it certinaly got me somehwat interested. This is an explicit show, so if you are squemish about stuff like this look away. If you want a good story look away as well. But if you want an anime that will challenge your sense of deceny then this is a good fit. Its more of one of those, so bad its good shows like school days which coicindentally was also made by the same studio.
