Review of Dr. Stone: New World
As a fan of the first two seasons of Dr. Stone, this one was pretty disappointing. This season really glossed over the science, focusing instead on adventure, manipulation, mystery, characters, and action. But the science is really what makes this show special at all. What's left is a mid shonen. Although Dr. Stone was never very realistic in terms of how much effort things take, in the first season it still required a certain amount of determination to build the things based on the science. But in this part, Senku just pretty much throws things together by magic, and my bullshit tolerance has reached itslimit. Like when he needs something, he just pulls some chemicals out of his backpack and builds it on the fly. It completely skips the planning, acquisition of materials, building tools, engineering, etc. And the science behind it is also not explained completely.
The animation is still good, maybe even a step up from earlier. Music is fine.
We have some new characters which I'm fairly happy with. We already established Ryuusei from the special episode, and he shines here. Taiju is mostly absent.
It feels like the plot is really moving forward. I haven't read the manga at all, but it feels like we are closing in on the main mystery. This is refreshing because a lot of shows just kind of go on without progress. It's a shame that it comes at the cost of science.
